
Our Lions will head down U.S. Hwy 287 to Henrietta tonight as they tangle with the Bearcats in a District 7-3A showdown. The Lions will take the court at Bearcat Gym at approximately 7:30 p.m. Lions will be looking to keep their 2-game winning streak alive.


Our Lady Lions remain on the road tonight, as they travel to Henrietta to take on the Lady Bearcats in a District 7-3A contest. Varsity action will tip off at approximately 6 p.m., at Bearcat Gym. The Lady Lions will be looking to extend their winning streak to 5 games.

With area school districts closing due to low attendance, we want our parents and community to know that while Vernon ISD has seen an uptick in absences due to the illnesses that are circulating, our attendance rate has not dropped to the level of closing school.


With the flu and other illnesses hitting the area pretty hard over the last week or two, here are some quick reminders for our VISD parents when they have a sick child.



A group of VHS seniors look over a few graduation items being pointed out by a representative from Balfour this afternoon in the high school Media Center. Members of the Class of 2024 ordered their graduation caps and gowns from the company today. The caps and gowns should be delivered sometime in March.


It may be late January, but May will be here before you know it -- especially for parents of VHS seniors!! Graduation is just 4 short months away!

It was Kona Ice Day Tuesday at VHS and a group of students received a free treat after being winners in a drawing from among students who had perfect attendance, and no tardies over the last two weeks. Receiving those free treats were Mayalana Moralez, Christian Aguilar, Maddie Dobbins, Cassidy Green, Donivan Montano, Keily Villalba, Jamerion Willie and Atticus Mixson. The free treats were provided by the VMS & VHS PTO.


After struggling offensively in the first half of their game Tuesday night in Jacksboro, the Lions picked it up in the second half and rallied from halftime deficit to claim a 63-55 victory over the Tigers. The victory gives the Lions a District 7-3A record of 5-2 and keeps them tied for second place.


Our Lady Lions overcame a slow start and a little bit of foul trouble Tuesday night in Jacksboro, using a strong second half to propel them to a 59-49 victory over the Tigerettes in a big District 7-3A game. The victory extends Vernon's winning streak to 4 games and gives the Lady Lions sole possession of third place with a district record of 5-4.


VHS juniors -- mark your calendar for the ACT Boot Camp! This test prep session can help you raise your ACT score by as much as 30%, and that score determines college admission and scholarship eligibility. Take advantage of this opportunity!! Cost of the boot camp is being paid by Vernon ISD.


Our Lion and Lady Lion wrestlers did well at the Red River Classic Tournament, which was held here last weekend. The VHS wrestlers will be back at home on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, as we host the District Wrestling Meet.





The 2nd annual 4-person golf scramble, benefitting the Vernon ISD Lions Roar, will be held April 20, 2024. Brett White's A.P. World History classes have been studying Medieval Times, and are learning to play Chess. The students were required to construct their own chess boards/pieces, and are learning how to play the game thru pool play, which will be followed by a Chess Tournament. Mr. White said all of the students did an outstanding job on constructing their boards and chess pieces.







During Monday night's Vernon ISD board meeting, trustees recognized Vernon Lion tennis coach Carrie Castleberry for being named the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Class 3A Coach of the Year for 2023, and Kell Castleberry for being named to the TTCA Super Elite Team in the Fall. A total of seven boys across all classifications were selected to the Super Elite Team, with Kell being the only player from Class 3A. Way to go Coach Castleberry and Kell. Congratulations on these outstanding achievements!! We are proud of you!!
