Freshmen -- mark your calendars for Freshman Orientation!!
All VHS incoming 9th graders will need to report to the VHS Cafeteria at 1 p.m., Tuesday. VHS administrators will go over campus policies; upperclassmen will speak about the different clubs and organizations students can join; and students will receive their class schedules.

Seniors join your classmates at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, for a "last first day of school" picture with your classmates!!

We're just days away from the start of the 2025-26 school year. If your child attended VISD last year and is planning to attend again this year, you must still register them for the new year. Please go to www.vernontx.org; scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Skyward Family Access. If you need assistance, you can also go to the school office at the campus your child will be attending.

Our Vernon Lions will hit Leo Brittain Field at midnight Friday for their Midnight Madness practice. Friday is the first day for full-contact and after going through their morning workout the Lions will put the pads back on and go at it under the lights! Head out to Leo Brittan Field at Lion Stadium Friday night and get your first look at the 2025 Lions. The practice will last until 1:30 a.m., Saturday.

The pads were poppin' this morning as it was the first day of practice with the pads on for the Lions, as they prepare for the 2025 season. The first day of full contact drills is Friday. Instead of their regular afternoon practice on Friday, the Lions will not take the field until midnight for their Midnight Madness practice. Fans are encouraged to attend the Midnight Madness practice and get their first look at the team. The practice will start at midnight Friday, and continue until 1:30 a.m., Saturday.

The Lions were back at it this morning, getting the work in as they prepare for the 2025 season. They get to put on the pads Friday and will have a special and fun Midnight Madness Practice starting at Midnight Friday night and continuing until 1:30 a.m., Saturday.

Remember today is the DAY for the Back to School Bash at the Boys & Girls Club!! The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Club. School supplies will be given away and they'll be fun and games, entertainment and food vendors!! Don't miss it!!

This morning during our 2025 VISD Convocation, teachers who earned Teacher Incentive Allotment recognition for the 2024-25 school year were recognized and received their allotment checks. Teachers cited as "Recognized" received checks ranging from $7,503 to $7,842; "Exemplary" level teachers received checks ranging from $15,006 to $15,685; and our "Masters" teacher received a check for $28,134. Congratulations and great job! We look forward to even MORE of our teachers earning TIA recognition this year. Let others know the great things happening at VISD! This morning Vernon ISD held it's Convocation to welcome back all teachers and staff for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. The morning kicked off with a breakfast hosted by the district in the Empire Room of Wilbarger Auditorium. Following the breakfast, teachers and staff moved into the main auditorium to hear guest speaker Ty Duncan, who was followed by VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward who gave his "State of the District" address. Teachers and staff are attending professional development sessions this week and early next week. The first day of classes for the upcoming school year is Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Excitement was in the air this morning at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium, as the Vernon Lions stepped onto the field for their first day of two-a-day workouts! The Lions will open their 2025 campaign at home on Aug. 29 when they host the Burkburnett Bulldogs. Reserve seat season tickets are now on sale to those who purchased season tickets last year. Reserve seat season tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 4! This year season tickets are $25 for all 4 home games. From Monday, Aug. 4 to Friday, Aug. 15, sales are limited to Lions fans who purchased season tickets last year. Season ticket sales will open to the general public on Monday, Aug. 18.
Stop by the Vernon ISD Administration Building between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, to purchase your reserve seat season tickets.

Today was the first day for high school volleyball teams to participate in two-a-day workouts and the Lady Lions took to the court this morning. They worked at various conditioning stations before moving on to volleyball skill drills. Their first scrimmage is a week from today in Childress, and they open the 2025 season on Aug. 11.

The 2025-26 school year is just a few days away and Vernon ISD has 2 openings for bus route drivers. This is a great part-time job opportunity or a great way to supplement your income. Today was the first day of two-a-day workouts for high school tennis programs across the state and members of our VHS tennis team hit the courts early this morning. The Lions open their 2025 Fall Season on Monday, as they host Lubbock Cooper Liberty at 10 a.m., and Lubbock Coronado at 2 p.m.

Thursday, 50 VISD teachers from all campuses, some new to the district and some returning staff, participated in Capturing Kids Hearts professional development. Capturing Kids' Hearts is a program designed to create positive and effective learning environments in schools by focusing on social-emotional wellbeing, building strong relationships, and fostering a sense of connectedness among students and staff. It aims to transform school culture through relationship-based strategies, ultimately improving student behavior, academic performance, and overall school climate.

Thursday, our Pre-K teachers and paraprofessionals participated in a professional development that focused on the adopted Pre-K curriculum, Frog Street. Frog Street is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum for early childhood education, designed for children in prekindergarten. It focuses on integrating instruction across developmental domains, including social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, intentional instruction, and family engagement, while also being aligned with state standards.

VHS volleyball players will hit the court tomorrow for first day of two-a-day workouts as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season.

It has become a tradition for seniors to pick and paint a parking space to be "theirs" for the year. This year, Aug. 13 -- the first day of school -- is the first day seniors can pick up applications to pick their parking space. Check out the details below.
