The Vernon Lions will face the Clyde Bulldogs in the Bi-district round of the Class 3A, DI playoffs. The game is tentatively set for 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14, in Jacksboro.
This morning following the Lions Spirit Pep Rally, Vernon Police Chief Dan Birbeck spoke to VHS students about making good choices and really what it takes to just be a good person. This afternoon, Chief Birbeck spoke with VHS staff about school safety.


Our 6th grade students got a surprise Friday morning, as Vernon College donated college t-shirts to all of them to help promote college awareness. The t-shirts were handed it this morning in class.






Last week VES held its 2nd Annual Soup Night for students and their parents. A variety of soups and cornbread were prepared by VES teachers and staff. Students in the VES Gifted and Talented Program also displayed their science projects that they had been working on.






On Thursday, students represented VMS in a Junior High One-Act Play competition in Graham. The VMS production of "Nicholas Nickleby" finished in second place in the competition. The student playing the title character, Logan Ware, was named Best Performer in the competition, and four other students earned All-Star Cast honors. On Thursday, our first grade students took a field trip and visited the local Red River Valley Museum.









Our Lions close out the regular season on the road in Peaster and the District 4-3A, D1 finale is a big one, as the winner will go into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed and the loser will be the No. 3 seed. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Cash only and no bill larger than a $20 will be accepted.

VISD students get a 3-day weekend this week, as there are no classes on Monday, Nov. 10, due to it being a Professional Development Day for teachers and staff.

This Friday is a scheduled Early Release Friday for Vernon ISD. We hope our students enjoy getting a head start on their weekend.

Wednesday afternoon KAUZ-TV was on hand at the Lions' practice and presented Ty Scott with their "Game Changer" award for this week. Ty received the honor for his work last week in Vernon's 28-14 victory over Iowa Park, as well as for the season, as he has over 1,700 yards of total offense heading into the regular-season finale this week. He has also thrown 6 TDs, while rushing for 7 additional scores. Congratulations Ty!!

D.O. Fulton Gym will be the site of two volleyball playoff matches later this week. This is the Regional Semifinal Round of the playoffs, and Thursday the Class 4A, D2 match will feature Canyon Randall taking on Krum. On Friday, Aledo will square off against Amarillo High in a Class 5A, D1 battle. Both matches will start at 5 p.m.. Someone at VES hit the big 5-0 yesterday, and his co-workers enjoyed having a little fun and celebrating the milestone birthday!! Happy 50th Mr. Aaron Burr!!

Last Friday senior members of the Lions football team, trainers, Roarin' Lion Band, Lionette Drill Team, and cross country team, along with their parents, were honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Vernon-Iowa Park game at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Congratulations to our VHS Teacher & Staff of the Month for October -- Kristyna Butler & Dalene Hamer! Ms. Butler teaches our Digital Media & Graphics Design classes and is also the yearbook sponsor, while Ms. Hamer is teaching assistant and leads Academic Success classes. They both do an exceptional job in the classroom and help out whenever and wherever they are needed.

Our VES students had a lot of fun Friday night as they performed a dance routine with the Lionette Drill Team to the tune of "Monster Mash" during halftime of the Lions' game against Iowa Park. They did a great job!! A big thank you to Coach Traci Berend and Coach Jeff Davis for working with them to learn the routine during P.E.
