Yesterday VHS seniors picked up their caps and gown for the Class of 2024 Commencement. Just another sign that time is slipping away and graduation is just 46 days away!!!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Mason Ford, Timothy McLaughlin, Yuleyka Ramirez and Kaiden Ortiz who passed their CTE Industry-based certification exam last week and are now Adobe Certified Professionals!! Awesome job!!

Here are a few more photos of our VHS students watching yesterday's solar eclipse at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Following the eclipse an End of Course pep rally was held at the stadium to get the students pumped up for their EOC tests that start today and continue over the next three weeks. GOOD LUCK STUDENTS!!! We KNOW you're going to ROCK those tests!!

Congratulations to our VMS Students of the Week for last week:
6th Grade -- Emely Rivera & Braxton Booth; 7th Grade -- Zoe James & Owen Morris; and 8th Grade -- Flor Ortega & King Freeman.
Great job!!! Keep up the good work!!

This is School Librarian Appreciation Day and earlier today VHS Principal Cynthia Jackson presented VHS Librarian Gayla Dehoyos with a plant and a big thank you for all she does for Vernon High School.

From our youngest students to our oldest, those on the McCord and High School campuses enjoyed their time watching the solar eclipse this afternoon.

All eyes were turned to the sky -- with correct protective glasses of course -- this afternoon as students and adults watched the solar eclipse. Luckily, the clouds stayed away and was a perfect day to watch the moon cross in front of the sun.

VISD's Pre-K is the best in the district! Don't miss your opportunity to register your child for our wonderful program for the 2024-2025 school year! Registration will be held Wednesday.

Honored as McCord's Teacher & Staff of the Month for March were LaMisa Moore, Staff, Del Marines, Specials and Sierra Thomas, Teacher. Congratulations!!! Thank you for all you do for our students and your fellow coworkers! All of you are greatly appreciated!!

Don't forget to stop by this afternoon while you're watching the eclipse!!

On Friday students in Mrs. Courtney Jansa's class presented paraprofessional Mrs. Sheryl Rhodes with a card the class made for Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. Each student wrote their own heartfelt message in the card. When Mrs. Rhodes entered their classroom Friday, the students all yelled "Thank you Mrs. Rhodes!," got up and gave her a big hug. Mrs. Jansa said the class also gave Mrs. Rhodes a plant and told her "just like the plant can't survive without the sun, we can't survive without you!"

Last week the Kindergarten Gifted & Talented students researched facts about eclipses in order to help them prepare and understand the total solar eclipse that is happening today. After practicing her presentation with Mrs. Sara Reeder and Mrs. Ashley Bloom, Macy presented her project to the students in Mrs. Twaleena Weddle's class.

Congratulations to Super Lions & Lady Lions fan Pam Gosline!! Pam was named Texoma's Remarkable Woman of the Year by KFDX and will be traveling to Los Angeles to represent our area and will be up for consideration for Nexstar's Woman of the Year award. We wish her good luck in the national competition.

Yesterday, the VHS Seniors hosted a "Meet and Greet" Forum for Vernon mayor candidates Pam Goslin and Dustin Fraticelli. Each candidate spent 30 minutes with the seniors. Government/History teacher Brett White asked each candidate the same questions. The floor was then opened for students to ask questions. This was a great opportunity for our seniors, 79 of which are are eligible to vote, to learn more about the views of each candidate as well as the process of running for an elected office. We appreciate Pam and Dustin for taking the time to give back to our students.

Our Vernon Lions claimed gold medals in two of the three relays and in four individual events at the District 7-3A Track & Field Meet held Monday and Wednesday at the Iowa Park High School Football Field. The Lions finished second in the overall team standings, and had Area Track Meet qualifiers in nine events. The top four finishers in each event advance to Area.
