There will be volleyball playoff action at its very best here Thursday evening, as the Decatur Lady Eagles and the West Plains Lady Wolves will be battling for the Class 4A, Division 1 Region 1 Championship and a spot in the State Tournament. Vernon will be hosting a Class 2A, Division 2 Football Bi-District Playoff game Thursday between the Electra Tigers and the Wheeler Mustangs. The game will kick off at 7 p.m., at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Electra will be the visiting team, with Wheeler the home team. District passes and Senior Citizen passes will be accepted.

On Thursday, we will be hosting a Class 2A, D2 Bi-District football playoff game between Electra and Wheeler. This one has special meaning, as Wheeler is led by former Lions Head Coach Matt Hoover. And, an Electra player, Brayden Turner, is the grandson of the late, great former Lions Head Coach Leo Brittain, who the football field is named after.

On Saturday, auditions for the ATSSB Region 7 North Zone All-District Band were held in Wichita Falls and Roarin' Lion Band member Rodrigo Olivas earned 4th chair Clarinet in the Symphonic Band. To audition, students prepared two pieces of music and several scales to play for a panel of judges. Rodrigo will perform with the All-District Symphonic Band during a concert on Dec. 14.
The Lions wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a 29-12 loss to Peaster. Vernon has a record of 7-3 heading into the playoffs. Receiving Offensive MVP honors from last week's game is offensive lineman Ethan Wilkinson, while Defensive MVP is Javi Lopez, who recorded 14 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss. Ty Scott collected 5.5 tackles and had a pass breakup to earn the Ball Hawk Award. The Big Stick Award goes to Tyce Payne who had 1 stack and 6.5 tackles. Co-Lion Heart Award recipients are Landon Bynum and Adrain Felton. Landon had 4 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss, and Adrain had 6 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pressure.

The football regular season came to end last night, but the Lions' season continues, as Vernon is heading into the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from District 4-3A, D1. Our opponent in the bi-district round of the playoffs is Sweetwater. The Mustangs finished as the No. 2 seed in District 3-3A, D1. The bi-district clash is set for 7 p.m., Friday, in Graham. Lions -- go claim that gold ball!!!
