Last week, Mrs. Hastings' Intro to Culinary students learned all about pasta. After researching the history of pasta, the students made fresh pasta by hand, and were then able to enjoy their freshly-made pasta.
Wednesday, April 30, our VISD All-Star athletes will get their chance to shine at our Vernon All-Star Olympics!! This is a warm-up for our athletes, who will go on to compete at Altus in an Area All-Star Olympics event in May. Donations are currently being accepted to help make our Vernon All-Star Olympics extra-special!! Come on out to Lions Stadium on April 30 and cheer on our All-Star athletes!
Students in our Gifted & Talented Program are presenting a GT Art Showcase on Friday. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., at the Red River Valley Museum . Stop by and check out some of their amazing artwork!! We have some talented youngsters!! The come-and-go will last until 7 p.m.
Our Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a Passion Workout on Monday, April 14, that is open to the public. Dinner will be provided for all students following the workout. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., on Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.

We apologize for the late post, but yesterday, April 4, was School Librarian Appreciation Day and we have four of the best! Mary Charo, Lisa Hass, Emily Richey, and Loren Vontungeln all go above and beyond at their campuses in both their own duties, and in helping staff and students. In Thursday evening's running finals of the District 7-3A Track & Field Meet, our VHS athletes picked up three event titles and grabbed 13 top four finishes, with those athletes advancing to the Area Track & Field Meet. As of 11 a.m., it is still Game Day for the Lions on this rainy Friday, as they are set to travel to Wichita Falls this evening for a District 7-3A game against the City View Mustangs. The JV game will start at 4 p.m., with the varsity game set to get underway at approximately 7 p.m. Good Luck Lions!!
It was a packed house for each of our lunch periods yesterday at our VES Cookout!! We had to set up extra tables to handle all the parents, grandparents and other family members who came to eat with their student! It is great to see so many of our parents on our campus and enjoying time with their student. The smiles on our students' faces are always bigger when their family spends time with them at school, and yesterday there were ear-to-ear grins everywhere!!

Our One-Act Play competed at district earlier this month, and while the play did not advance to the next round of competition, three individuals earned special recognition. Garrett Munson received the Best Tech Award, while actors Logan Luster and Creed Feltman received honorable mention All-Star Cast honors.
The public will have two opportunities this weekend to see a performance of "Black Snow" our One-Act Play production. We will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Wilbarger Auditorium, and again at 5 p.m., Saturday, at the VHS Cafeteria. Admission is $5.
After the One-Act Play, there will be a Film Showcase featuring the film that earned 2nd place at the State competition, as well as the other films that advanced to compete at State.

Tomorrow is an Early Release Friday for our Vernon ISD students. We hope they enjoy the early start to their weekend!
Starting next week, on April 10, we will have one STAAR Test day a week for three consecutive weeks (April 16, April 24). Check out the information below and the helpful tips to make sure your student has the opportunity to do their very best on those testing days.
Our Lions will in Iowa Park today for the District 7-3A Track & Field Meet. We had a great crowd last night for our STAAR Night, which was wonderful to see. Our students and their parents stopped by booths to answer test-like questions; enjoyed playing carnival games in the gym that were manned by our PTO; and checked out all the books available at our Book Fair. They also enjoyed a wonderful spaghetti dinner. Thank you parents, for attending our STAAR Night with your children and supporting them as they prepare for the test.
We have wonderful paraprofessionals at all of our campuses and Vernon ISD would like to recognize them today on Paraprofessional Appreciation Day!!
Whether they're working to ensure everything runs smoothly at their campus, or helping teachers in the classroom, they give their all EVERY DAY to help VISD provide the best education possible for our students.
